The Jaguars captured the 2023 Xavier Cup after edging Creamline via tiebreak in their title showdown at the Tagaytay Midlands Golf and Country Club in Batangas Monday.
Both teams fought to a 4.5-all deadlock but the Jaguars were declared champions, having beaten Creamline during the preliminaries.
The Jaguars struck in two scramble matches.
Vince Siy and Lance Chan combined to beat Charlie Tan and Timo Go while Carlo Pineda and David Chan won overw Dexter Lee and Martin Milan.
The Jaguars also posted two wins courtesy of Kirby Sy and Vic Mapua in the high-low and Terence Lim ad Rainier Jacinto in best ball.
Sy-Mapua defeated Raymond Co and Patrick King while Lim-Jacinto out played Jameson NgKaion and Jeremy Chan.
Creamline won two matches in best ball.
John Chua-Paolo Carnivel and Paul Gruba-Jerry Tan hurdled John-Gobing-Patrick Tanjangco and Benson Lim-Harvey Tiu, respectively.
Creamline also picked up points in scramble through Antonio Tan-Mariano Lao and high-low through Jon Kevin Sy-Karl Tan.
Tan-Lao rolled back Scott Tan-Justin Tee while Sy-Tan disposed of Steve Tycangco-Marc Tio.
Jaguars’ Paolo Gomez and Michael Tee halved the match with Creamline’s Alvin Tan and Alfred Gatchalian in high low.
In the battle for third place, Excel routed the Tigers, 6.5-2.5.
The six wins were posted by James Chan-Joshua Yu, Adrian Chua-Erwin Co, Gibson Yu-Chris Chua, Kristian Siy, Ethan Wong-Darren Flores and Edgar Gatchalian-JD Chua.
The Tigers won two matches courtesy of Benjie Sumulong-SP Sumulong and Anthony Cheng-Winston Tan.
The match pitting Tigers’ Juan Manuel-Philip Wong against Excel’s Gary Manotoc and Toti Sanchez ended in a tie.
The tournament drew six teams with the Jaguars, Creamline, Excel and Tigers advancing into the semifinals after the single-round robin event.
In the Round of 4, Creamline whipped Tigers while Jaguars took the measure of Excel.
