Filipino middleweight Eumir Marcial is now neck-deep in training for a proposed fight in late-August with a trouble-free victory catapulting him to a stint in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in September-October.
Now working with a fast-rising strategist in Kay Koroma, Marcial displayed blinding hand speed and paralyzing power when he did the mitts.
While it is risky, Marcial is determined to pursue his professional career by returning to action following a hand injury he sustained in his last outing in February in San Antonio, Texas.
Parading a 4-0 record, Marcial’s next assignment is aimed at expediting his rise in the rankings and rev up for the Asian Games, which will serve as a qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The original plan was to give Marcial a quick fight after his knockout win over Argentine strongman Ricardo Villalba but the Zamboanga native hurt his injury-prone right hand.
Marcial then had to undergo an operation in March that needed a couple of months to heal.
Last month, he returned to the United States to revert to training mode.
Koroma also trains top world super-featherweight and 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist Shakur Stevenson, whom he has coached the last 12 years.
