Lyceum of the Philippines University finally broke through after five defeats as it repulsed Enderun Colleges, 22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 24-26, 16-14, in the V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge yesterday at the Paco Arena in Manila.
Janeth Tulang, who shifted to the middle position in the second set onwards, topscored for the Lady Pirates with 22 points on 18 attacks and four blocks while Johna Dolorito put up a superb all-around performance of 20 points, 15 excellent digs and nine receptions to help anchor the Lady Pirates’ hard-earned victory.
Joan Doguna added 17 points for the Muralla-based squad.
“I told them that we should maximize our strength and our advantages over our opponent while minimizing our errors,” Lyceum coach Cromwell Garcia said.
The Lady Pirates actually failed to wrap it up in four but proved steadier in the decider to pound out the elusive win.
The Lady Titans came back from a 10-13 deficit in the fifth but Dolorito and Doguna came through with clutch hits to secure the two-hour, nine-minute win for the Lady Pirates.
Erika Deloria and Althea Botor scored 22 and 21 points, respectively, for Enderun, which absorbed its third straight defeat to drop to 1-4.
