Games today:
(Filoil EcoOil Centre)
2 p.m. — JRU vs San Sebastian
4 p.m. — Saint Benilde vs Perpetual
Host Jose Rizal University aims to solidify its hold of second place when it faces San Sebastian College in National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 99 men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan today.
The Heavy Bombers are currently sharing the second spot with San Beda with identical 4-1 win-loss records and are gunning for a fifth win at 2 p.m. when they face the Golden Stags in a fierce encounter.
The Shaw-based JRU is coming off a 71-65 win over University of Perpetual Help System Dalta.
The showdown between College of Saint Benilde and the Altas takes place at 4 p.m. to cap off today’s double-header in the country’s oldest collegiate league.
But eyes will be on the red-hot JRU squad as they have been making lots of heads turn.
The Bombers have apparently put last year’s woes behind them and are setting their sights to ending a six-year Final Four drought.
Against Perpetual, Shawn Argente fired 17 points with Joshua Guiab hitting 12 points for the Bombers.
JRU head coach Louie Gonzales said his team’s commitment brought them to where they are now, something he expects when they face San Sebastian, which currently holds a 1-3 slate and shares seventh place with Perpetual.
“Every after game, we would have a viewing session with them for feedback,” Gonzales said.
“Their attitude is commendable. They absorb what we teach and they try it to the best they can on the court.”
