Alex Eala continued with her winning ways after a 7-6, 6-7, 6-0 win over Russia’s Ekaterina Yashinq to advance to the quarterfinal of the W50 Indore in India.
Eala, 18, needed two hours and 39 minutes of play on Thursday to edge out her Russian foe.
The Rafael Nadal Academy graduate previously dispatched Kazakhstan’s Zhibek Kulambayeva, 6-3, 6-4, last Wednesday in the round-of-32.
Eala, seeded third in the tournament, is set to face seed Anca Alexia Todoni of Romania in the quarterfinal of the $40,000 netfest.
Todoni, No. 235 in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings, swept Japan’s Rina Saigo, 6-4, 6-2, in a separate match to advance to the quarterfinal.
This is Eala’s second tournament in India this year after winning the W50 Pune women’s doubles crown with Darja Semenistaja of Latvia late last month.
She is also set to compete in the United Arab Emirates for the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open set from 3 to 11 February.
