Albert Jose Amaro II of Region V broke a four-year-old Palarong Pambansa record after clocking in 26.14 seconds in the secondary boys swimming 50-meter butterfly on the second day of the 63rd Palarong Pambansa at the Marikina Sports Complex in Marikina City yesterday.
Amaro, a Grade 11 student hailing from Camarines Sur, eclipsed the previous Palaro record of 26.34 seconds set by Mervien Jules Mirandilla of Region IV-A in the 2019 edition in Davao City.
Region IV-A tankers Kelan Bryce Ganzon (26.29 seconds) and Jamesray Michael Ajido (26.35 seconds) took the silver and bronze medals, respectively
Meanwhile, the Cordillera Administrative Region dominated the poomsae events with four gold medals.
In the elementary girls division, Trisha Lobonan struck gold for CAR with teammate Jomiya Yua Ysabelle C. Oblacoro settling for a silver medal finish.
Lobonan and Oblacoro would then team up with Alexandria Aganon in the team event in the elementary girls division.
Jheron Cristobal and Aganon joined forces to claim the gold in the elementary mixed pair event for CAR before the trio of Caleb Angelo Calde, Zeick Andre Tacay and Gabriel Ivan Inacay won the secondary boys team event.
