How passionate are Filipino basketball fans?
Even without a home team to cheer for, the basketball-loving Pinoys came in full force at the Mall of Arena to witness Luka Doncic and Slovenia playing the National Basketball Association-laden Canada squad.
Right from the get-go, the most passionate fans in the world showed their love and support to Doncic, who easily became the crowd darling.
From his solo warm-up shooting drills, Pinoys immediately became closely attached and relished the opportunity seeing the Dallas Mavericks star up close and personal.
By game time, the feeling was electrifying and once their names are called, it was obvious who Filipino fans were rooting for.
But from the names who were called out, a familiar one was heard and it received a blaring boo from the crowd.
Dillon Brooks was given a reception normally being received by a villain opposing their well-loved hero.
The stark contrast between these two main characters provided an exciting blend and perfect backdrop to this do-or-die quarterfinals showdown.
It’s a literal win or go home scene.
The arena erupted the moment Doncic, a multiple-time NBA All-Star, hit his first shot — a three-point basket in the 7:53 mark of the opening quarter.
Just two more exchanges of offensive thrusts came Brooks with his retaliation triple from deep left with 6:54 to go in the first quarter.
There’s some color developing between the two main characters when both players got their arms entangled and Doncic was whistled for an offensive foul when Brooks was given a shove.
It was a total treat.
Cheers were heard loud each time Doncic touches the basketball and jeers every moment Brooks the leather.
Pinoys got very much engaged even when there’s no Gilas Pilipinas team taking center court.
They are more closely attached to the star of the show and without a doubt, it was Doncic.
A rock star has performed in front and Filipinos loved it.
