China denies Gilas Youth FIBA U16 Asia bronze

Gilas Youth failed to reach the podium after a 59-87 loss to China in the bronze medal match of the 2023 FIBA U16 Asian Championship at the Al-Gharafa Sports Club Multi-Purpose Hall in Doha early Monday.

The Chinese scored 33-of-67 from the field and even grabbed 54 rebounds as they denied Gilas a medal in the Asian tournament.

Boyang Zhang again led China with 34 points behind a 12-of-17 shooting clip and grabbed seven rebounds while Sinan Huan had a double-double game of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Joaquin Gabriel Ludovice led Gilas with 15 points, four rebounds and two assists as the Philippines finished fourth in the tournament.

The Philippines, China, and finalists Australia and New Zealand will play in next year’s FIBA U17 World Cup in Turkey.
