The Thai banger tasked to ruin one of the Philippines’ brightest hopes for a medal in the Paris Olympics, arrives in Manila on 20 March.
Thoedsak Sinam, who battles Eumir Marcial in a light-heavyweight eight-rounder on 23 March at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, has vowed to assume the role of a party-pooper.
But Marcial, who camped out in Las Vegas before returning to the country last week, knows he has no other option but to score a sensational win as proof that his preparation is right on track.
Next week’s fight will be Marcial’s fifth as a professional and this could be his only fight before proceeding to the Olympics scheduled 26 July to 11 August.
Based on his plans, Marcial would like to join the rest of the Philippine team in a training camp cum competition in Colorado Springs next month.
The team is revving up for the second and final World Olympic Qualification Tournament scheduled to take place late-May to early-June in Bangkok.
So far, only women fighters Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas have qualified for the Olympics following their strong showing in the first Olympic qualifying held recently in Italy.
The Marcial-Sinam showdown is being staged by MP Promotions and VIVA Promotions and supported by the Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Olympic Committee.
