LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Former Toronto Raptors star Vince Carter and Detroit Pistons icon Chauncey Billups headed a 13-strong list of inductees named on Saturday into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame (HoF).
Eight-time All-Star Carter, who played a record 22 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for Toronto, New Jersey, Dallas, Memphis, Atlanta, Orlando, Sacramento and Phoenix, retired in 2020.
Billups, the current coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, is a five-time All-Star who was named NBA Finals Most Valuable Player in 2004 after leading the Pistons to the championship.
Carter and Billups will be enshrined with 11 others at a ceremony in August.
Other inductees announced on Saturday included Los Angeles Lakers icon Jerry West. West was inducted as a “contributor” even though he had already been inducted in 1980 for his achievements as a player.
Other players included on Saturday’s list included Seimone Augustus, Michael Cooper, Walter Davis, Dick Barnett and Michele Timms.
Charles Smith, Harley Redin and Bo Ryan were named as coaching inductees along with broadcaster Doug Collins and Indiana Pacers owner Herb Simon.
“Without a shadow of doubt, the accomplishments of the 2024 class stand as a testament to unparalleled excellence,” Hall of Fame president John Doleva said in a statement.
