Problems are still hounding Gilas Pilipinas with less than a week left before the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers kicks off.

Gilas tactician Chot Reyes revealed that the integration of players is now their biggest problem as they are missing the services of key big man Japeth Aguilar in the pool.

Reyes said Aguilar tested positive for Covid-19 with only a few days left before their first game against Lebanon on 25 August, making him questionable to join the pool that will fly for the Lebanese capital of Beirut on Monday.

Adding fuel to the fire is the decision of Magnolia big man Ian Sangalang and Jio Jalalon to beg off from joining the pool due to their injuries during the Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup semifinals.

“Exactly. We have the players, but do we have enough practice?” Reyes told Daily Tribune.

“Japeth was positive and we’re testing him everyday, that’s a big development.”

In a previous report, Reyes said the team hasn’t had full attendance since opening the camp last week.

Collegiate big men Carl Tamayo and Kevin Quiambao have yet to join the pool due to their respective commitments with the University of the Philippines and De La Salle University.

“Ian Sangalang already informed us that he won’t make it and Jio also begged off, they are injured,” Reyes added.

“Tamayo and Quiambao are still playing with their schools.”

Even with the arrival of Jordan Clarkson and Kai Sotto, Gilas’ troubles are far from over.
