Five-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Agatha Wong learned a lot from last year that she intends to use them in future tournaments.

The 25-year-old wushu athlete told DAILY TRIBUNE that competing in the 32nd SEA Games in Phnom Penh and the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China made her hone her discipline as she is also studying medicine at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City.

She also said having a good support system is essential for her path as she strives to juggle the responsibilities of being an athlete and a medical student.

“My discipline has always been tested. There were days that I just wanna rest but I can’t,” Wong said.

“I need that (support system)  plus I’m thankful for my med school. They have been supporting me ever since.”

Wong is expected to represent the country once again this year at the 4th Taijiquan Championships in Singapore from 21 to 28 August, 10th Asian Wushu Championships in Macau and the 2024 Wushu World Cup in Japan.

The 25-year-old admitted that her training remains the same despite not having the SEA Games and Asian Games in the same year.

“No. It’s still the same and it’s med school so I don’t think it’s going to be easier from here,” Wong said.
