Chanelle Avaricio birdied two of the last three holes at the Arnold Palmer course of Mission Hills to produce a one-under-par 71 in the second round of the first stage of the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour Q-School Friday.
On 4-under 140, Avaricio was tied for 35th in a field of 306 players battling for 100 spots in the second stage in October.
She had back-to-back birdies from 2 against three bogeys to reach the turn on 1-over. She birdied 12 and bogeyed 13 before finishing with birdies on 16 and 18.
Samantha Bruce failed to sustain a hot start and settled for two-over-par 74 but remained inside the cut line.
After opening with a 69 at the Faldo course of Shadow Ridge Thursday, Bruce struggled with her club selection at the wind-swept Mission Hills’s Dinah Shore course to slip to 1-under 143.
She birdied 2 and 7 inside eight feet before missing the greens on 9, 12, 15, and 16 for bogeys.
Chanelle Avaricio, who also shot a 69 in the first round at Dinah Course, was still out on the course.
Meanwhile, Abby Arevalo was also inside the cut line after returning a 73 at Mission Hills’ Palmer course. She is even par for the event.
Starting at the back, Arevalo parred the first five holes before stumbling with a double bogey on 16. She made the turn on 1-over after a birdie on 9.
Coming home, Arevalo rallied with three birdies in the last four holes to counter bogeys on 1, 2, and 4.
Daniella Uy carded a 75 at Dinah Shore to bring her total to 1-over, the projected cut line.
But amateur Lois Kaye Go needs to produce a good round to be among 125 players advancing into the final round at Dinah Shore.
Go followed a 75 with a 73 for 4-over, three shots outside the cut.
A double bogey marred Go’s round which also featured three birdies and two bogeys.
On 5-over was Sunshine Baraquiel who had an up-and-down 72 at the Palmer course.
She had five birdies against the same number of bogeys.
France’s Anais Meyssonnier followed up an opening 63 with 70 to top the leaderboard on 11-under 133, one shot ahead of England’s Emily Price who fired a 66.
Alone in third on 9-under was Thai Arpichaya Yubol also carded a 66.
