Gilas Pilipinas is expected to keep the same lineup when it battles Saudi Arabia on Monday in the fourth window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio believes that Gilas head coach Chot Reyes will keep the final 12-man roster intact when they return to the country for their final game against the Saudis.
They will return to Manila on 27 August.
In a lineup released by the SBP on Thursday, Jordan Clarkson and Kai Sotto bannered the crew that is currently facing Lebanon at the Nouhad Nawfal Sports Complex at press time.
Joining them were Gilas mainstays Dwight Ramos, Kiefer and Thirdy Ravena, Carl Tamayo and Bobby Ray Parks as well as Philippine Basketball Association standouts in Scottie Thompson Japeth Aguilar, Calvin Oftana, and newcomers Jaime Malonzo and Chris Newsome.
Free agent and former PBA top pick Roosevelt Adams was the last cut from the team.
“Chot might keep the same 12,” Panlilio said in an interview yesterday.
“I think it’s still the best 12 among the 13, I’m hopeful with the team and with all of your support. Win or lose, let’s just support the team.”
Panlilio said Adams’ fate for the Saudi game still depends on Reyes and his coaching staff composed of Tim Cone and Jong Uichico.
“Roosevelt is also there to gain experience, for the coaches to see how he can play with the team,” Panlilio said.
“Whether he’s given a chance to play in Saudi, it’s a coach’s call on Sunday.”
