Gilas Youth has an opportunity to end its campaign on a high note when it faces Iran for fifth place in the FIBA U18 Asian Championship at the FIBA U18 Asian Championship at the Azadi Basketball Hall in Tehran Sunday.
The match starts at 5 p.m. (Manila time).
Gilas Youth is fresh from a 72-67 win over Chinese Taipei last Friday where the Filipinos staved off a late-game rally by the Taiwanese.
Against Iran, the Philippines will have to dig deep into its bag of tricks.
Iran is coming off an 82-45 victory over Qatar.
Mohsen Asgari Nia will be a big thorn for Gilas Youth after scoring 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists against the Qataris.
Sarem Jafari will also be another offensive threat as he scored 18 markers, off a 7-of-8 shooting clip, seven boards and five assists.
The Philippines will again rely on Filipino-Australian big man Mason Amos, who scored 21 points, six rebounds and three assists against Chinese Taipei as well as Earl Jared Abadam, who scored 14 markers for Gilas Youth.
