Alex Eala breezed past Nina Vargova of Slovakia, 6-2, 6-3, early Tuesday as her US Open campaign continues to flourish at Flushing Meadows in New York.
The 10th-seed Eala took out Vargova in one hour and 15 minutes to advance to the third round.
Eala defeated Annabelle Xu in her first game back in the juniors division after a year of playing in professional tournaments.
The 17-year-old-scholar of the Rafael Nadal Academy is in pursuit of her first Grand Slam trophy in the girls singles after already winning two major titles in the girls doubles.
She won the 2020 Australian Open girls doubles with Priska Nugroho of Indonesia before teaming up with Russia’s Oksana Selekhmeteva to win the French Open in 2021.
Eala is slated to face eighth seed Taylah Preston of Australia next with the match date being determined as of press time.
Eala has a better Women’s Tennis Association ranking of No. 297 compared to Preston’s No. 660.
Still, she can’t underestimate Preston as the Australian entry managed to pull off a 6-2, 6-7, 6-1 win over Angella Okutuyi of Kenya.
