Gilas Girls ripped apart Samoa, 84-68, yesterday to cap their FIBA U18 Women’s Asian Championships Division B with a bronze medal at the Tree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bangalore, India.

The Philippines managed to get a spot on the podium after last Saturday’s 66-65 loss to Malaysia in the semifinal.

Trailing by five points, 45-40, in the third period, Gilas Girls went on a 13-0 tear for a 53-45 lead with three minutes and 49 seconds left.

Sumayah Sugapong led Gilas Girls with 24 points, six rebounds, two assists and nine steals while Louna Ozar scored 19, grabbed six boards and had two dimes off the bench.

Malia Jae Ruud led the Samoans with a double-double output of 30 points and 13 rebounds.
