Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has filed a Senate resolution hailing the recent string of achievements of world No. 3 pole vaulter EJ Obiena in Europe.
“With these triumphs, it is no doubt that EJ deserves the recognition and commendation of this esteemed hall,” Go said.
Go’s move to praise Obiena came just days after the 6-foot-2 Italy-based athlete topped the Golden Fly Series in Liechtenstein after clearing 5.71 meters.
Obiena also saw action in Switzerland on 12 September and set a meet record of 5.81 meters.
Obiena’s triumphs also includes defeating world champion Armand Duplantis by doing 5.91 meters in the Brussels Diamond League.
“Thank you for your hard work and for giving honors to the country. Your win is an inspiration to our people and it came at a time when we are all undergoing challenges.”
“Your victory is a victory of the Filipino people and we are proud of you. As Committee chair for Sports, I am here to fully support you and I was glad that Sen. Pia Cayetano called for a hearing to settle the issue,” Go said.
“I am glad that this has been resolved and you can now take part in tournaments and it is proof that if we are united, we can go far.”
Now that Filipino athletes have been reaping rewards internationally, Go guaranteed them that the government will back them up all the way.
