College of St. Benilde guns for the top as the Blazers clash with the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers today in Season 98 Nacional Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Armed with a 3-1 record, the Blazers are currently tied with idle Lyceum but are coming off an 81-75 loss to defending champion Letran College.
Gametime is at noon with the Charles Tiu-coached Saint Benilde out to show that it can close out games.
“We had chances to win this game against Letran. We missed two wide open layups down the stretch that could have tied the game but that’s how it is, they outworked us,” Tiu said.
But Tiu swears the game will be tough.
“Against JRU, we have to be tougher. They’re a physical team. Watching their games, they have a nice offense and they play fast ball so we have to be ready for them mentally and physically.”
The Blazers will be ledgy Will Gozum, who had 23 points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort against the Knights.
Unlike Saint Benilde, JRU is coming off a 70-67 win over Arellano last Wednesday.
In the 3 p.m. encounter, San Beda and University of Perpetual Help System Dalta lock horns.
