Yeng Guiao and his Elasto Painters squad found a perfect way to strike back and atone from their previous loss to the NLEX Road Warriors by giving the powerhouse Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings a sound beating, 93-71, in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena Wednesday night.
Rain or Shine hit 17 three-point shots and handed Ginebra its worst loss since the Gin Kings were beaten black and blue by Talk N’ Text last 18 February during the Governors’ Cup elimination round.
“This is a good way to bounce back after our loss to NLEX,” said Guiao. “We just caught a big fish in Ginebra. But it’s hard to catch Ginebra in situations like this one. This is one of their rare bad nights. Maybe we played well, but maybe because they also played badly.”
The Elasto Painters displayed their firepower to the fullest as they drew 52 points coming off the bench, 32 more than their counterparts. Rain or Shine also scored 20 points coming off Ginebra’s 17 turnovers.
Rain or Shine import Steve Taylor Jr. struck back from his sub-par performance against the Road Warriors as he finished with 21 points, 16 of which happened in the first period alone, setting the tone for the rout.
Leonard Santillan added 15 markers on 6-of-9 shooting from the field while Mike Nieto contributed 10.
