Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Eumir Marcial has found a dancing partner for his 8 October fight in Los Angeles.
Steven Pichardo, a 6-foot-1 puncher from Torrance, California, has stepped up to the plate to battle the Filipino southpaw in a six-rounder at the Dignity Sports Park in Carson.
This will be Marcial’s third professional fight and Pichardo, a six-year pro, poses serious threats given his respectable 8-2-1 record with two knockouts.
Marcial, who turned pro in December 2020 and only fought for the second time as a pro last April, has a 2-0 mark with one knockout.
He has been training in Las Vegas the past few weeks and will see action on the same night Jerwin Ancajas attempts to exact payback against Argentine Fernando Martinez in their International Boxing Federation super-flyweight title rematch.
In the event Marcial gets past Pichardo, he will likely fly back to Manila to reconnect with the national team that is revving up for the Asian championships in Amman, Jordan, later this month.
