Much is expected from F2 Logistics newcomer Ivy Lacsina when she debuts in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference that will open on Saturday at the Sta. Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.
Cargo Movers coach Benson Bocboc said the National University product will play a huge role in the team’s much-anticipated return to the league after skipping the Invitational Conference.
Bocboc has his full confidence on the 6-foot-1 recruit that he even considered her as currently F2 Logistics’ top middle blocker in terms of function.
Lacsina will be one of the top options in the frontline position in the Cargo Movers rotation that includes multi-awarded middle Majoy Baron, Lourdes Clemente, Jessma Ramos and skipper Aby Marano.
“We have five middles in our lineup right now but so far she (Lacsina) is our No. 1 middle in the team in terms of function,” Bocboc, who will be calling the shots in the tournament for Ramil de Jesus who opted to take a backseat.
The Cargo Movers have always been known for their vaunted net defense anchored on strong and towering middles — their strongest suit that allowed them to win five titles in the defunct Philippine Superliga and in the inaugural Philippine National Volleyball Federation Champions League last year.
Lacsina, who was instrumental in the NU Lady Bulldogs’ unbeaten championship run in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament, is a perfect fit in the Cargo Movers’ system.
“Ivy is doing great. In fact, she is a complete player. She’s skilled both on offense and as a defensive player,” Bocboc said.
Lacsina opted to forego her last playing year for NU and signed with F2 Logistics last September.
In her last season with the Lady Bulldogs, Lacsina averaged 9.2 points per game with norms of 0.40 blocks per set and 0.28 aces per frame.
She is expected to complement power-hitters import Lindsay Stalzer, Kalei Mau and Kim Kianna Dy and another offensive option for veteran setter Kim Fajardo as the Cargo Movers look to redeem themselves from a sixth place finish in the season-opening Open Conference.
Lacsina will be tested on 11 October when F2 Logistics begin its campaign against Chery Tiggo at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
