The House of Representatives adopted a resolution honoring Ernest John Obiena for bringing glory to the country on the international stage.
Speaker Martin Romualdez handed over a copy of House Resolution 10 to Obiena during his courtesy call to his office on Tuesday.
“We will be rooting for you. We will be praying for you and cheering for you all the way,” Romualdez told Obiena, noting that the lower chamber is behind him as he sets to compete in various international meets, including the 32nd Southeast Asian Games and 19th Asian Games next year and the Paris Olympics in 2024.
Obiena, the third-best pole vaulter in the world, expressed gratitude to the Speaker for the warm reception he received, saying that the House’s support pushes him to work harder to bring pride and glory to the Filipinos.
“It’s very flattering to receive such an honor,” the 26-year-old pride of Tondo, Manila said.
“It’s good to know that the whole House is at the back of every Filipino athlete who competes for the country.”
The lawmakers lauded Obiena for his remarkable contributions in bringing honor to the country, saying his outstanding performance deserves utmost commendation and distinction.
The House adopted the resolution on 31 August for winning the gold medals in True Athletes Classic 2022, just five days after winning another gold medal in the 26th Internationales Stabhochsprung-Meeting in Jockgrim, both held in Germany.
