Defending champion Carlo Biado bounced back from the loser’s bracket to book a spot in the Round of 64 in the US Open 9-Ball Championship in Atlantic City, New Jersey Wednesday.
The 38-year-old Filipino defeated Chinese Taipei’s Chen Chia Hua, 9-4, to advance along with Johann Chua, Roland Garcia, and Lee Van Corteza.
Biado won his first two assignments against Serbia’s Nikolin Dalibor and Russian Kristina Tkach with identical 9-1 scores.
The three other Filipinos also fought in the loser’s division.
Chua trounced American Tony Robles, 9-5, and Corteza routed Canadian Stephen Holem, 9-2.
Chua faces Eklent Kaci of Albania next while Corteza takes on Jayson Shaw of United Kingdom.
Previously, Chua and Corteza were beaten by former world champion Ko Pin Yi of Chinese Taipei, 9-7, and Wojciech Szewczyk, 9-6, respectively.
Garcia, on the other hand, trounced Greece’s Nick Ekonomopoulos, 9-3, to arrange a showdown with Venezuela’s Jesus Atencio.
Meanwhile, Roberto Gomez remained unbeaten.
He clobbered United Kingdom’s Darren Appleton, 9-6, to set up a Round of 64 match with Chinese Taipei’s Wu Kun Lin.
Earlier, he crushed American Rich Walters, 9-1, and edged Canada’s John Morra, 9-8.
