Weiwei Gao staggered to a five-over-par 76 and virtually bowed out of the Korn Ferry Tour Q-School Stage 2 qualifying with one round to go at the University of Mexico championship course in Albuquerque, New Mexico Thursday.
The former University of Virginia standout and many-time member of the Philippine team failed to make a single birdie while stumbling with three bogeys and a double bogey.
He has a 54-hole total of 9-over, 12 shots off the projected number to get one of 17 spots to the final stage next month.
Gao, who honed his skills at the Alta Vista Golf Club in Cebu, is the only Filipino who took part in the qualifying and advanced to the next stage. He is now based in Atlanta, Georgia where he works as a part-time caddie at the Peachtree Golf Club.
Emilio Gonzalez paces the 72-hole qualifying on 8-under after a 69.
