Mercado, Siong top Apo tourney

Karlo Mercado and Cole Te Siong shared the limelight by winning the overall gross and net crowns, respectively in the recent Ateneo de Davao Blue Knight Association Cup golf tournament at the Apo Golf and Country Club.

Mercado, a seven-handicap player, scored a gross score of 34 to bring home the overall gross title which came with a glass trophy and gift certificate.

Cole Te Siong , a 27-handicap, took the overall net crown with a net score of 50.

Pre-tournament favorites EJ Casintahan and Den-Den de Castro, both four handicappers, also had their winning moments with Casintahan scoring 32 for the Class A gross crown and De Castro finishing runner-up with 30.

Paul Garcia wrested the Class A net crown with a net score of 36 while Enrique Romero-Salas had 35 good enough for runner-up honors.

Other division winners:

Class B — Renz Yamyamin (31) — gross champion, Jake Ortega (31), Thirdie Ibuyan III (45) – net champion, Rene Mascarinas (44);

Class C — B/Gen Randolph Cabangbang (26) — gross champion, Jerson Tico (23) — gross runner-up, Jonathan Su (44) — net champion, Lorenzo Jaldon (44) — net runner-up;

Ladies — Maria Lourdes Babol (27) — gross champion, Christina Bandolon (18) – gross runner-up, Tsuky Ortega (42) — net champion, Joanna Espino (38) — net runner-up;

Seniors — Marlon Tabanao (24) — gross champion, Dennis Salvador (22) — gross runner-up, Raymond Salvador (42) net champion, Lito Cinco (39) — net runner-up.

Richard Jay Matus scored a rare hole-in-one feat on 17 to pocket P15,000. He used a Ping hybrid club and Titleist ball. He played with Regie Lee, Von Timbreza, and Jerry Leonor.

Tournament director Ken Libron, along with Ateneo Alumni Affairs Office Director Wilfredo Samante and Ateneo de Davao Blue Knight Association President Oliver John Tiu, awarded the winners with their respective trophies during the awarding ceremonies.
