Games today:
(Filoil EcoOil Centre)
12 p.m. — San Beda vs Arellano
3 p.m. — Letran vs Perpetual
Fortifying their Final Four bids will be the main agenda of title contenders San Beda University and Letran College today when action in Season 98 National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament intensifies at the Filil EcoOil centra in San Juan.
The Red Lions face off with Arellano University at 12 p.m. while the defending champion Knights take on the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta at 3 p.m.
Both San Beda and Letran are tied at fourth place with similar 6-3 win-loss records.
In the first round, the Lions prevailed over the Chiefs, 96-61.
San Beda head coach Yuri Escueta said he wants boys to be consistent in the second round now that the Final Four is fast approaching.
“We still could have improved a lot,” Escueta said, who will rely on James Kwekuteye and JB Bahio.
“We’re looking to be more consistent in the second round because our games have gone up and down and our consistency has to start in each quarter of the games.”
As for the Knights, who narrowly escaped Emilio Aguinaldo College, 72-68, two weeks ago, head coach Bonnie Tan hopes the team would lessen their turnovers in this round.
Letran will be banking on veterans Fran Yu, Louie Sangalang, Brent Paraiso and Kurt Reyson to keep its title hopes in play.
“We led the league in terms of turnovers. The turnovers committed were because of the transition points EAC got,” said Tan, whose team committed 18 turnovers against the Generals.
“That has been our weakness so far this season.”
