Defending champion Letran showed no mercy in disposing of Perpetual Help System Dalta on Tuesday, 18 October as the Knights posted a 74-59 win in Season 98 National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Brent Paraiso led the Knights with 16 points and seven rebounds while Louie Sangalang had a double-double game of 10 points and 10 boards as they picked up their fourth straight victory for a 7-3 win-loss record for third place.

Holding a 37-32 lead entering the third quarter, Kurt Reyson drained a triple before Sanggalang sank a layup to re-establish a double-digit lead, 42-32, and never looked back.

Letran even inflated its lead by 28 points after Pao Javillonar sank a putback, 71-43, in the 3:06 mark of the fourth quarter.

Knights head coach Bonnie Tan challenged his players to control the rebound against the Altas.

“I challenged the boys in the rebounding department because Perpetual is the number one team there, we told them we beat them in rebounds and we win the game,” said Tan, whose team grabbed 54 boards in the game compared to Perpetual’s 45 rebounds.

Jielo Razon paced the Altas, who sank to a 4-6 slate, with 13 points, six rebounds and three assists in a losing effort.
