Kaya FC-Iloilo women’s team won its first international match at the expense of Lion City Sailors FC Women’s Team of Singapore, 3-1, at the SingaCup Women’s Football Championship at the German European School Football Field in Singapore Monday.
Dionesa Tolentin had a brace in the game after scoring goals in the 38th and 40th minute off assists by Irish Navaja.
In the second half, Madison Telmer then scored one back for the Sailors in the 74th minute to pump life back into their match.
Unfortunately, Maye Mendaño then scored another goal for Kaya at stoppage time to secure the over the defending Singapore Women’s Premier League champion.
This was the women’s squad’s first win on the international stage since being established in 2019.
Apart from Kaya and the Sailors, also joining the tournament are Phranakorn Football Club Women of Thailand and Persib Putri of Indonesia.
In the league table, both Kaya and Phranakorn share the top spot after their opening-day wins ahead of their clash on 21 October.
Kickoff is will be at 5 p.m. at the same venue.
