12 p.m. — Lyceum vs Letran
3 p.m. — San Sebastian vs JRU
Defending champion Letran College guns for its 10th victory as it battles Lyceum of the Philippines University today in Season 98 National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Both squads lock horns at noon as the Knights and the Pirates clash in a crucial match that could determine their place in the standings once the eliminations are done.
Letran is alone in second place with a 9-3 win-loss record while Lyceum is in third place with an 8-4 slate.
San Sebastian College and Jose Rizal University clash later in the day at 3 p.m.
But eyes will be on the Knights, who are seeking payback from their 82-75 loss to the Pirates on 2 October.
Ever since that defeat, Letran has won six straight games and is hoping to get its seventh consecutive win.
In that victory, Mac Guadaña led the Pirates with 20 points while John Barba and Gyle Montaño with 12 points apiece
With the landscape of the tournament different, Knights head coach Bonnie Tan is nursing hopes that veteran quartet of Fran Yu, Louie Sangalang, Brent Paraiso and Kurt Reyson rise to the occasion anew.
“We’re just being cautious as we look at our three losses in the season. I’m happy that we are able to make it into the top two so far,” Tan said.
“I hope this continues for us.”
