The weather disturbance brought by typhoon “Paeng” forced organizers to call off the scheduled Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-Season Championship today at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
According to Athletic Events and Sports Management Group Inc., the slated quadruple-header in the second round of this collegiate tourney had been cancelled as Metro Manila braces for strong winds and heavy rain brought by “Paeng.”
“Paeng” had already intensified, prompting authorities to place Metro Manila and nearby provinces under Signal No. 2 as of Friday evening.
“Due to unexpected weather disturbance, we have decided to postpone the matches scheduled tomorrow, 29 October, to a later date,” ACES said in a statement.
A total of eight teams were set to see action in the second round of the SSL.
Top contender National University takes on University of Perpetual Help System Dalta in the Pool E curtain-raiser at 10 a.m. while University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University clash in Pool F at 12:30 p.m.
Squaring off at 4 p.m. in the other Pool F pairing are Adamson University and De La Salle University while the Pool E features the battle between University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University at 6:30 p.m.
The league stressed that it will make a decision on Saturday morning if it will still push through with the games on Sunday.
“If weather permits, the scheduled Sunday, 30 October, matches will push through. We will inform teams tomorrow afternoon on the Sunday schedule,” ACES said.
