Games today:
(Ynares Center Antipolo)
4:30 p.m. — Blackwater vs Converge
6:45 p.m. — TNT vs Phoenix
Phoenix Super LPG, the hottest team in the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup, meets TNT even as Converge, another surging squad, tries to push its luck when it faces Blackwater on Sunday’s double header offering at the Ynares Center Antipolo.
After losing their first three games in the tournament, the Fuel Masters have racked up four straight victories that catapulted the squad in the upper half of the standings.
They will battle a Tropang Giga squad eager to bounce back from a sound beating it received at the hands of Converge last Friday night.
The Fuel Masters and the Tropang Giga collide at 6:45 p.m. right after the match between the FiberXers and the Bossing at 4:30 p.m. assuming the league doesn’t see any reason to postpone the games owing to the weather.
Phoenix’s sudden resurgence is being credited to rookies Tyler Tio and Ench Serrano, who were picked up in the second round of this year’s Rookie Draft.
But Topex Robinson saw something that made him select Tio and Serrano.
Tio, the spitfire guard from Ateneo has been superb, averaging 14.6 points, including close to 40 percent shooting from beyond the arc to lead the rookie performances this conference.
Serrano, on the other hand, has averaged 11.4 points per game, but has also been providing the intangibles and the spark needed by the Fuel Masters in turning their fortunes around.
But they’ll be facing a Tropang Giga team eager to storm back following a 130-117 defeat to Converge.
And if there’s one team that has shown success in bouncing back, it is the start-studded TNT squad mentored by Gilas taskmaster Chot Reyes.
