Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Kim Mangrobang sets out for a long journey as she vies in the 2022 World Triathlon Vina del Mar in Chile on 13 November.
Triathlong Association of the Philippines president Tom Carrasco said the Chilean event will dangle qualification points for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The 31-year-old Mangrobang last competed in the 2022 World Triathlon Cup Miyazaki in Miyazaki, Japan last 29 October where she finished in 30th place with a total time of one hour, four minutes and 42 seconds out of 46 participants.
“In her past two competitions, Mangrobang was able to collect Olympic points. I don’t know how much but she got,” Carrasco said.
“Kim really wanted to go to Chile. She called me up and told me she secured a visa there and will travel after their time here in the Philippines.”
Mangrobang also joined the 2022 World Triathlon Cup Tongyeong in Tongyeong, South Korea last 15 October and peak 37th.
While Mangrobang is currently in the Philippines, Carrasco hopes she would leave earlier to get herself used to the conditions in Chile.
“My suggestion for her was to leave this Wednesday or Thursday to accommodate the change in times. She has to get acclimatized for the tournament,” Carrasco said.
“She already has her own training group there who will help her out there in South America.”
