Cruz, Salilig bag Buljohn Cup

Dan Cruz and amateur partner Lindsey Salilig captured the first Buljohn Cup pro-am tournament via playoff at the Aoki course of Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in General Trias, Cavite Thursday.

Cruz-Salilig combined for nine-under-par 63 to tie with Don Petil and Zach Castro that forced sudden death.

After both teams remained tied after two playoff holes, Cruz and Petil were called on to break the tie through a 50-yard pitching contest. Cruz went on to win.

Cruz-Salilig pocketed the top purse of P25,000 while Petil-Castro settled for P15,000.

The 18-hole pair scramble event was held in honor of Johnel Bulawit who celebrated his 40th birthday.

Five teams tied for third on 64. They were Rufino Bayron-Allen Embuscado, Marvin Dumandan-Mario Pagunsan, Gary Sales-Enrique Lauren, Carlos Packing-Mikaella Constantino and Jerson Balasabas-Romy Francisco.

Scoring 65s were Rupert Zaragosa-Jimmy Suelo and Tony Lascuna-Antonio del Rosario.

Meanwhile, another 18-hole pro-am event, the second VTN Cup, will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Philippine Navy golf course.

Tony Lascuna, Jerson Balasabas, Jhonnel Ababa, Michael Bibat and Jay Bayron head the field of the tournament organized by Allan Remata.

On Saturday, Edison Tabalin, fresh from his breakthrough victory in the Singha Thailand Junior World Championship, sees action at the start of the 2022 Camp Aguinaldo Junior Championships on Saturday.

The 16-year-old Davao ace is paired with Leandro Bagtas, Zachary Blanco and Rico Daniel See at 7:20 a.m. in the first hole.

Tabalin leads the 21-player cast in the boys’ 15-18 age-group division.

Tristan Jefferson Padilla and Patrick Gene Tambalque banner the field in the boys’ 13-14 bracket which will start in the back nine.

Over in Cavinti, Laguna, cash prizes will be at stake in the sixth Philippine Caddies Golf League set Monday at the Caliraya Springs Golf Club.
