Most Valuable Player Scottie Thompson sank a triple from the left wing to cap Barangay Ginebra’s rally from 19 points down with a thrilling 97-96 squeaker over San Miguel Beer in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on 6 November.
The Gin Kings played catch-up most of the time and had a hard time matching the front court of the Beermen without Christian Standhardinger.
Standhardinger, the Gin Kings’ starting center, sat out the game due to an injury.
Thompson’s triple, coming off a jump-ball with four seconds left highlighted the Gin Kings’ 16-4 wind-up.
Ginebra double-teamed San Miguel import Devon Scott, the receiver of the inbound pass, who lost control of the ball.
It was the third straight victory for the Gin Kings, which are now on fourth spot with a 5-2 standing.
