National University wound up undefeated in Pool E after showing Perpetual Help no mercy, 25-17, 25-7, 25-17 in the Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-season Championship at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum yesterday.
Minerva Maaya led the way for the Lady Bulldogs while Evangeline Alingsud and Sheena Toring followed suit as they finished their Group E campaign with a 3-0 win-loss record ahead of the quarterfinal match today.
Maaya dropped 15 points while Alingsud and Toring both hammered 10 for NU.
Lady Bulldogs head coach Karl Dimaculangan wanted his players to not only focus on getting a good standing but likewise have fun and enjoy the game as well.
“This is the last day for the quarterfinal ranking so our mindset for them was to push ourselves and prepare for our next games. We know our next matches will be tougher. We’re not just preparing our skills but also our bodies,” Dimaculangan said.
“We just need to play our game and follow our system. If we commit errors, we move on. What’s important is that they enjoy the game and perform well.”
NU has won all of its six games in the first and second round.
In the second game, University of Santo Tomas posted a 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21 win over Far Eastern University.
Regina Jurado scored 20 points while Angeli Abellana scored 17 as the Golden Tigresses played without talisman Eya Laure, who is on vacation.
