Two-time The International champion Topias Miikka “Topson” Taavitsainen did not mince words in describing his experience of what it is like to play DOTA 2 in the Southeast Asian region.
The former OG mid laner took a break from the DOTA 2 competitive scene after his former team failed to defend its title in TI 10 last year.
After taking a brief hiatus, Topson moved to Malaysia with his family and started to play again, but this time in the infamous SEA region where DOTA 2 players are notoriously known for its toxicity.
Despite playing pubs in high-ranked games, Topson noticed that the same problems exist in the Southeast Asian servers.
“It is definitely crazier. It is more chaotic. Games are longer for no reason,” Topson shared in an episode of OG Monkey Business Show.
“There is no strategy, I do not even know what to say. I think it is because there are no strong leaders so people just do their own thing.”
Earlier this year, Topson and his ex-OG teammate Anathan “ana” Pham joined T1 to replace two Filipino players in Kim “Gabbi” Santos and Karl “Karl” Baldovino to boost its bid to qualify for TI 11 that took place last month in Singapore.
Topson’s stint with T1, however, ended in heartbreak as they failed to secure a slot in the grandest stage of all Esports through the Southeast Asia Qualifier last September.
Together with Filipino DOTA 2 star and T1 team captain Carlo “Kuku” Palad, Topson needed to go through the hole of a needle in the Last Chance Qualifier against some of the best teams in the world where they also fell short upon losing to Vici Gaming in the lower bracket quarterfinals.
