Controversial cager John Amores on 20 November personally apologized to College of Saint Benilde players for his violent behavior in the aborted 8 November game between Benilde and Jose Rizal University in the men’s basketball of NCAA season 98.

Benilde head coach Charles Tiu, speaking after the Blazers’ 83-73 win over Arellano University, said Amores was invited to the CSB campus to formally apologize to the team.

“He reached out to one of our players, Carlo Sumabat… they’re both from JRU… I told Carlo he (Amores) can reach me anytime,” Tiu said.

“We invited him to (the team) practice yesterday and we’re happy. It takes a lot of humility for him to accept his mistakes and come to the whole team and say sorry.”

Amores was stricken off the JRU team and was indefinitely suspended by the NCAA management committee after running amok during the 8 November game which Benilde won, 71-51, over JRU.

However, Benilde’s Taine Davis and Jimboy Pasturan will still file charges against Amores for multiple physical injuries. Tiu said Amores will take responisbility for his actions.

“Nice thing about John, he’s accepting whatever consequences he’ll be facing. He didn’t really ask or beg Jimboy to throw away the case, and I said, that’s really up to the families and the players,” Tiu said.

“It’s easy for us to say to the team to drop that case, but we weren’t really the ones who got hurt, so we leave it up to the families and we’ll support their decision.”
