Amateur Samantha Bruce battled cold and stiff winds to salvage a one-under-par 71 and stay in contention in the LPGA Tour and Epson Tour Qualifying Tournament second stage at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida.
Bruce collected three birdies in the front nine at the Bobcat, including the ninth where she buried a testy eight-footer.
However, she got into trouble at the back, missing the green on 10 for her first bogey.
At 11, Bruce’s tee shot landed in a bad lie near the lip of the fairway bunker, leading to a double bogey.
She birdied 15 to get a share of the 38th spot on 1-over 145, six shots behind pacesetting American Karen Chung, Korean Seulki Lee and Chinese Yue Ren.
Only the top 45 finishers advance into the final stage next month.
The rest of the Filipinas were lagging.
Chanelle Avaricio, Pauline del Rosario, and Abby Arevalo finished 36 holes on 8-over.
Avaricio was stalled by two double bogeys in posting a 74, Del Rosario made only one birdie on her way to 76 and Arevalo limped home with 78 following two birdies against six bogeys and a double bogey.
All three Filipinas share 114th place.
Daniella Uy did not make a single birdie in a round of 79 for joint 150th.
Chung collected six birdies against two bogeys and a double bogey to shoot a 70 while had five birdies against three bogeys for a 70.
Ren, on the other hand, carded a bogey-free 70.
Tied for fourth on 4-under 140 were Selena Costabile (67), Dorsey Addicks (68) and Aline Krauter (68).
