Caloy raves about siblings

SOCIAL MEDIA

Carlos Yulo was beaming with pride and excitement after seeing his siblings Karl Edrew and Elaiza bag medals in the recently-concluded JRC Artistic Gymnastics Stars Championships in Bangkok.

Elaiza won the women’s all-around while Karl Eldrew picked up the silver in the men’s all-around.

Karl Edrew, a Grade 9 student from Adamson University, also picked up a gold medal in the floor exercise, a silver medal in the pommel horse, horizontal bar and a bronze medal in the rings.

As for Elaiza, she got gold medals in the floor exercise, uneven bars and vault.

In a radio interview yesterday, the two-time world champion could not help but rave about the two.

“I saw the selfie with their medals and as a kuya, I saw their routines and comparing Eldrew to me at that age, he’s miles ahead,” Yulo said.

“My siblings are something else.”

Both gymnasts are already being groomed to train overseas by the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines.

Japan artistic gymnastics national team head coach Hiroaki Sato is set to take Karl Eldrew under his wing to train in Australia after his stint at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Meanwhile, Elaiza is set to train in the United States with the details still being ironed out.

Yulo wants his siblings to reach their dreams and find a deeper meaning on why they play.

“Whatever their dreams may be, they need to check if it is clear to them. There will be a time that it will be really hard for them and I don’t want them to quit easily,” Yulo said.

Asked if they share the same style while performing, Carlos feels the two have their own techniques.

“We have different attitudes and styles in gymnastics.”
