TNT on 20 November brought in a new import to observe the Tropang Giga’s game against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.
Matt Mobley, who stands at only 6-foot-3, but is a veteran in the European basketball circuit, will play for the Tropang Giga’s last two games in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup 2022.
The Tropang Giga will battle crack teams Bay Area and San Miguel Beer, games they can’t afford to lose.
TNT will take on tournament leader Bay Area on 23 November at 3 p.m. and San Miguel Beer on 26 November, 6:45 p.m.
As the Tropang Giga suffered an 85-89 loss at the hands of the Gin Kings, Mobley watched from the sidelines to have an idea at how his new team plays.
“He arrived Sunday afternoon from his stint in Germany,” said TNT team manager Jojo Lastimosa. “He’s small than the rest of the imports, only stands 6-foot-3.”
The 28-year-old Mobley averaged 12.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists while playing for Ratiopharm Ulm in the German League.
Although Mobley is eligible to play for the season-ending Governors’ Cup, Lastimosa said Mobley’s future isn’t guaranteed: “He’s not locked in for the Governors’ Cup. But he’s the best import that can come in on short notice.”
On 20 November, TNT played without a reinforcement as Cameron Oliver was sidelined by a leg injury and won’t be fit to return until after two weeks, forcing the Tropang Giga to tap Mobley.
