Cignal and Choco Mucho clash in a virtual do-or-die match today for the last semifinals seat at the close of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference elimination round at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The two teams will duke it out at 2:30 p.m. for the right to join Creamline, Chery Tiggo and Petro Gazz in the round-robin Final Four.
Meanwhile, Petro Gazz and F2 Logistics battle at 5:30 p.m. to cap the double-header playdate of the rescheduled game day of the postponed 29 October matches in Laguna due to inclement weather.
The Angels are looking to build momentum heading into the next round against the Cargo Movers, who threw away their chances of making it to the semifinals last Saturday.
Still, attention is on the Cignal-Choco Mucho clash.
The HD Spikers hold a slight advantage as they are coming off a morale-boosting 25-21, 20-25, 25-14, 25-20, win over F2 Logistics last Saturday.
“It’s a huge win for us, especially against a well-experienced team in F2. For sure we’ll bring this big win in our next game on Tuesday,” Cignal coach Shaq delos Santos.
The HD Spikers’ win not only hike their win-loss record to 4-3 at solo fourth spot but also gave them a higher tiebreak in case of a tie at 4-4 and effectively knocked the Cargo Movers out of contention.
Cignal just needs to win over the Flying Titans to snag the last semis seat. The HD Spikers can also afford to lose in five sets as they will still have a higher tiebreak in case of a logjam at 4-4.
Cignal currently holds 11 earned points compared to nine points by Choco Mucho.
The Flying Titans and Cargo Movers are tied with identical 3-4 slates. F2 Logistics only has eight points earned.
In order to advance into the next round, Choco Mucho must win by straight sets or four sets to earn three points.
A five-set win is not an option for the Flying Titans as it will still award the HD Spikers a point giving Cignal a superior tiebreak.
There will be no more playoff for the last Final Four slot.
