Lloyd Jefferson Go did a lot of scrambling to pull off a three-under-par 68 at the start of the PKNS Selangor Masters at the Kelab Golf Seri Selangor Golf Club in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia Wednesday.
Go, who placed fourth in the ICTSI Villamor Match Play Championship at home, struggled with his ball striking but did an excellent job minimizing the damage, needing only 23 putts.
“I hit it terribly,” the Cebu-based Filipino said.
“Made up-and-downs from everywhere to save my life. I probably missed every green.”
Still, Go did an excellent job saving pars while taking advantage of three par-5 holes to make birdies.
All in all, he had five birdies against two bogeys.
“I hope I can figure it out later this afternoon. Not just for this week but for everything else I have to come,” he said.
Despite the struggle, Go is just three shots behind clubhouse leader Amir Nazrin who opened with a 65.
Go currently ranks fifth in the money list with $27,689.
The top 10 get Asian Tour cards.
Fidel Concepcion shot 72, Ira Alido carded a 74 while James Ryan Lam was 6-over through 15 holes.
