Lloyd Jefferson Go inched closer to earning an Asian Tour card after sharing third place in the of the PKNS Selangor Masters at the Kelab Golf Seri Selangor Golf Club in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia Saturday.
The 27-year-old Filipino closed with even-par 71 to tie with Malaysian Danny Chia on 6-under, three shots behind winner Shahriffuddin Ariffin of Malaysia who carded a 70.
Go reached the turn on 1-over after one birdie against two bogeys but birdied 10 and chipped in for birdie on 17.
However, he three-putted 18.
Still, Go solidified his hold on fifth place in the money list with $37,139 with three tournaments remaining.
“Everyone is saying I got it locked up but I can’t be too sure,” he said.
“The last three events offer the biggest purses all year. They are about three times a normal ADT (Asian Development Tour) event.”
Go said he was surprised with his performance this week.
“My shots were all over the place but I managed it really well. Hoping to get my shots back and finish the year strong.”
He credited swing coach Andrew Ong for playing solidly in the final round.
“Got a tip from swing coach Andrew and it worked,” he said.
Ariffin fired four birdies to counter a bogey and a double bogey to finish the 72-hole event on 9-under, two shots ahead of Thai Denwit Borinboonsub who submitted a 72.
Meanwhile, Miguel Tabuena rallied from an opening double bogey to salvage even-par 71 in the third round of the Bangabandhu Cup Golf Bangladesh Open at the Kurmitola Golf Club in Bangladesh.
Tabuena was in a temporary share of 19th spot on 2-under with Natipong Srithong of Thailand, Khalin Joshi of India and Miguel Carballo of Argentina.
After dropping two shots in the first hole, he dropped another shot on 2 before making back-to-back birdies from 6. He added three more birdies against two bogeys to finish even par for the day.
Justin Quiban, the only other Filipino in the field, shot a 73.
