NCAA decision stays, Yu can’t play

SOCIAL MEDIA

The NCAA management committee on 13 December stood by its decision to suspend Letran player Fran Yu, despite his team’s appeal to reconsider the penalty.

In a statement, the committee said Letran did not present new evidence that would support the appeal.

“There was no new evidence presented by CSJL (Colegio de San Juan de Letran as required by the NCAA rules to lift the suspension, and CSJL did not contest the judgment call of the game officials,” the statement read.

Yu was suspended from the league after elbowing Mark Sangco in the second quarter of game 2 between Letran and Benilde, putting Yu’s remarkable college basketball career on hold.

The suspension comes at a crucial time, five days before defending champion Letran goes into the make-or-break game 3 against title-hungry Benilde in the NCAA season 98 basketball finals on 18 December.
