CALAMBA, Laguna — Sta. Cruz passed yet another acid test as it beat Layba Trucking Cabuyao, 77-67, to pick up its second straight win in the Liga Laguna Season 3 at the Barangay 3 covered court in Elepano, Calamba City recently.
John Zernan Hernandez came away with a perfect game as he hit all his nine attempts from the field on his way to finishing with 23 points for Sta. Cruz, which improved to 3-2 win-loss card to forge a three-way tie for third to fifth places.
Arlan Santos chipped in 17 points on top of four rebounds and two steals while Lester Gahite and Jan Lester Sandoval chipped in 10 points apiece in this event put up by chairperson Andrew Felix and vice chairperson Raymond Ferrer with former Philippine Basketball Association referee Joel Ngo serving as league commissioner.
Also winning were Stone Fire-Krah Asia Sta. Rosa and KDL Calamba, which pulled off contrasting victories.
Sta. Rosa had also posted back-to-back victories in the tournament, but it needed two overtime periods before outlasting Cavinti, 99-96.
Calamba, meanwhile, gave its hometown crowd a total treat with a dominant performance over Pakil, 100-83.
