LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Carl James Martin, the reigning World Boxing Association Asia super bantamweight champion, knocked out Thailand’s Komgrich Nantapech in the second of their scheduled 10-round title bout at the Cordillera Career Development College gymnasium in La Trinidad, Benguet over the weekend.
Martin, Cordillera’s wonder boy, dropped Nantapech after two minutes and 22 seconds of the fateful round to win the International Boxing Federation Pan Pacific Super bantamweight crown.
Martin improved his perfect record to 21 wins with 17 knockouts.
Nantapech, who has 31 wins, suffered his seventh defeat.
The bout served as a test for Martin who is eyeing a crack at the world title.
Martin has been signed by Probellum, the same outfit that promotes elite boxers, including former world champion Nonito Donaire, Jr.
Boxing promoter Darwin Dep-ay of Pinoy Boxing Prodigy said the bout was the biggest boxing event held in the Cordillera since the 1970’s.
Dep-ay said that more boxing promotions will be held in Benguet and the Cordillera Region.
