If there’s one thing that NorthPort playmaker Robert Bolick does best, it’s not his killer crossover or strong move to the basket.
It’s his ability to give back to the community that witnessed his rise to stardom.
Immediately after the Batang Pier got booted by Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the playoffs of the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup, Bolick flew to his hometown in Ormoc City to spearhead a charity activity for members of the local community.
In partnership with OCCCI-Ormoc, which is a regular participant in the VisMin Super Cup, the 5-foot-11 guard from San Beda University conducted a basketball clinic at the Ormoc City Elevated Court with the hopes of finding another gem in the rough.
He also distributed sports apparel together with his wife, Cassandra.
“I’ll always be here to support you, my love!” Cassandra said in a social media post.
“I am so proud of you and your kababayans are so lucky to have you.”
The mother of a participant in the basketball clinic, which was attended by around 30 aspiring players expressed her gratitude to the 27-year-old cage star.
“Thank you, Robert Bolick, for the free clinic for our kababayans here in Ormoc,” Wawang Ballera Magnaye said on Facebook.
“The kids are so happy and so are the parents.”
Bolick’s heartwarming act of charity is his way of giving back to the community that cheered and prayed for him starting when he was still playing in different leagues around Leyte until joining De La Salle University in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines before transferring to San Beda in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
In the PBA, he is at the peak of his career, posting averages of 21 points, 6.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds to join the conversation for the Best Player of the Conference award of the Commissioner’s Cup.
Right now, he is the league ambassador of the OCCCI D-League Region 8, an invitational inter-school basketball tournament.
But more than all the accolades and prestige brought by his glittery PBA career, Bolick had proven that he is more than just a dependable leader on the court who is not afraid to take the big shots when the game is on the line.
He also has a heart of gold.
