Allen Liwag will don the colors of the College of Saint Benilde after leaving Emilio Aguinaldo College.
Blazers head coach Charles Tiu confirmed Liwag’s transfer on Thursday.
“It is a good sign for our program that people are trusting in us. He will be a big boost to our team for sure,” Tiu said, referring to the former National Collegiate Athletic Association Defensive Team member.
“We’ve thought of him as a high-caliber player from the first time we saw him during the bubble season. He’s a talented player with size and huge potential,” Tiu said.
In 13 games for EAC in Season 98, Liwag averaged 13.25 points, 6.39 rebounds, and 1.69 assists, one of the bright spots in the Generals’ lackluster 3-15 win-loss record in the 10-team tournament.
Liwag was also a one-time Gilas Pilipinas pool member last year.
He will be sitting out NCAA Season 99 for a one-year residency and will play for Saint Benilde in the league’s 100th season.
Tiu said they will want Liwag to use his time to polish his game while being away for one season.
“We talked about how we would use him, where he needed improvement and how we plan to develop him. He would fill in a big gap for us,” Tiu said.
“Overall we will help him improve as a player to reach his potential. It is a good sign for our program that people are trusting in us. He will be a big boost to our team for sure.”
