Richard “Dickie” Bachmann formally accepted the challenges that he is facing as chairperson of the Philippine Sports Commission.
In a simple turnover ceremony at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, the 54-year-old Bachmann formally accepted the leadership — and the challenges — from former chairperson Jose Emmanuel “Noli” Eala.
Eala, a sports broadcaster who was appointed last September, emerged as the shortest PSC chief ever after being replaced by Bachmann on 28 December.
His short term was marked with success as he spearheaded the first ever Batang Pinoy National Championship since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in 2020.
Bachmann expressed his gratitude to his predecessor, saying that his service and dedication to national athletes in such a short span of time were truly impressive.
“I would like to thank and honor former Chairman Noli Eala for his service and dedication to support our national sports associations and national athletes,” said Bachmann, who also sat down with Olympian Hidilyn Diaz and her husband, Julius Naranjo, right after the turnover rites.
“I look forward to learning more about the programs that are in the pipeline, as well as those that are already being implemented.”
Eala thanked Bachmann for giving him the opportunity to share his thoughts and knowledge that he gained from his stint as PSC chairperson.
He also assured the new agency head of his full support.
On the same note, Bachmann thanked the PSC workforce which continues to play an important part in the overall role of the agency in Philippine sports as it celebrates its 33rd anniversary this month.
The PSC was established as the national sports agency by virtue of Republic Act 6847 on 24 January 1990, replacing the Project Gintong Alay.
